Decorating and Preparing for Fall

As the leaves change and the air gets crisp, it's officially that time of year when the coziest, most comforting season takes the spotlight. It's a time for oversized sweaters, fluffy blankets, and mugs of your favourite warm beverages. But most importantly, it's a time for slowing down and savouring the simple joys of being at home.

Whether binge-watching your favourite shows, diving into a good book, or whipping up a batch of homemade pumpkin bread, there's something truly magical about the fall season.

Because Fall is in the air, it's time to cozy up your home with some fabulous decor swaps! Here are some ideas to infuse that warm autumn vibe into your space.

Throw Pillow Covers and Blankers: Swap out your summer pillows for rich, earthy tones. Think burnt orange, deep burgundy, or cozy plaid patterns. These new pillow covers can instantly transform your living room or bedroom. Alternatively, drape your chairs and couches with soft, cozy throw blankets.

Shower Curtain: Give your bathroom a seasonal makeover with a fall-themed shower curtain. Look for designs featuring autumn leaves, pumpkins, or warm colour palettes. It's a small change that makes a big impact.

Room Fragrances: Fall is all about those comforting scents. Swap out your spring and summer fragrances for warm, spicy, and cozy ones. Candles, diffusers, or potpourri in scents like cinnamon, apple, or cedar can create an inviting atmosphere.

You can diffuse a fall scent or make a stove-top diffuser with a blend of apple, cinnamon, cloves, and orange peels in a pot with water and let it simmer for a while until the smell permeates the house - there is nothing quite like it.  It is a fabulous thing to do if you are also selling your home and don’t have time to bake anything for an open house or series of showings. Throw a pot of spice on as you tend to your last-minute cleaning - just don’t forget to turn it off before you go!

Flannel and Down Bedding: Nothing says fall like snuggling up in flannel sheets and a down blanket. Swap out your lightweight bedding for cozy flannel to keep you warm on those crisp nights. Plus, the patterns and colours are perfect for the season.

Plant Swap: Fall plants like mums, decorative kale, or ornamental grasses make fantastic outdoor or indoor decor additions. They bring a touch of nature's beauty into your home and garden. Swap out your summer blooms for these fall favourites.

Nature's Artistry: Let nature's artistry inspire your decor! Collect colourful fallen leaves, pinecones, and acorns from your backyard. Arrange them in bowls or create charming centrepieces. These little touches of nature will bring the outdoors inside, filling your space with rustic beauty.

Fall Florals: Say goodbye to summer blooms and usher in the charm of autumn with mums and richly-hued flowers. Adorn your mantel with heirloom pumpkins to capture the essence of the season.

Sweater Weather Prep: It's time to dig those sweaters out of storage! If you've been holding onto your summer clothes, consider switching them out now. When those chilly mornings creep in, you'll be all set to stay snug and stylish.

Autumn is the perfect time to embrace the simple pleasures of home. How do you prepare your cozy sanctuary for fall?
